Samsung had announced its first Galaxy device - Galaxy S i9000 - in March 2010. Apart from being one of the Android 2.2 devices around, another notable feature for this handset was that it had Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. Shortly, after that Apple too had come out with iPhone 4, which deployed Retina Display technology and both these technologies and products were pitted against each other.
Another interesting thing that Samsung did with it Galaxy Series is that they had marketed their product with different brand names for different operators. So, when Apple iPhone 4 was being sold exclusively through AT&T (second largest wireless service provider in United States), Samsung Galaxy S was available though all major carriers in United States. Verizon (the largest service provider) was marketing this device as Samsung Fascinate, while AT&T had Samsung Captivate, Samsung Vibrant for T-Mobile, Sprint was offering Samsung Epic 4G and Samsung Acclaim was available with US Cellular.
Though this Smartphone became quite popular in the American and European market but its sales in the Indian market was not comparable. It was not that the device did not get notice but it's price was becoming a big deterrent in the minds of price conscious Indian consumer.
To overcome this company soon launched Samsung Galaxy 3 and Samsung Galaxy %. Both of these were Android devices but were more cost effective than the Galaxy S.
Realizing Samsung to be an important part of the Android eco-system, Google choose this Korean giant to showcase its Android 2.3 Gingerbread on Samsung Nexus S device. On May 25, 2011 Samsung has launched a successor for its Galaxy S with Galaxy S II in the Indian market. This device too will have Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board and is also one of the thinnest Smartphone's of the world.
Banking o its Android success Samsung has launched three tablets under the same umbrella brand. The first one was Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 inches, which was launched in November 2010. And now company will soon be launching a 10.1 inch tablet and a 8.9 inch tablet in the Indian market to offer a wide variety of screen options.
Additionally, the company also has plans launched a few another value for money Android options in the form of Samsung Galaxy Fit, Samsung Galaxy Pro and Samsung Galaxy Ace and they are planning to keep the momentum going in the coming one year.
